Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting to review the plight of families whose loved ones were killed by Pakistan-backed militants, said an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on redressing long-ignored grievances and ensuring justice for the next of kin (NoKs) of the victims.

During the meeting, the LG directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to reopen cases that were “deliberately buried” and file fresh FIRs wherever necessary. He also instructed officials to expedite the process of providing government jobs to the victims’ families on a priority basis.

The LG further ordered authorities to take swift action in restoring properties and land illegally occupied by militants or their sympathisers from the families of the slain civilians.

LG Sinha called for identifying individuals involved in the killing of innocent Kashmiris, who are now employed in various government departments, the statement said. “Culprits roaming free for decades will be brought to justice,” he asserted.

To ensure focused redressal, LG Sinha announced the establishment of a Special Cell in the LG Secretariat dedicated to addressing the concerns of these victim families. A similar cell will also be set up in the Chief Secretary’s office.

“Every possible assistance will be provided to the victim families. It’s time justice prevails,” the LG said, underlining his administration’s resolve to dismantle all remnants of the terror network in the Union Territory.
