Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress recently announced that it will step up its campaign for the restoration of statehood ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, which begins on July 21.
During a meeting of district coordinators from the Jammu region, JK Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra accused the government of India of unjustifiably denying the people their rightful demand for statehood.
He said the current dual administrative setup was causing hardships for the people and stressed that the GoI must fulfill its commitment to restoring statehood, as promised in Parliament and the Supreme Court.
Karra urged party workers to engage with the public to raise awareness, unite them, and mobilise support for the Congress-led statehood movement.
At the meeting, the party resolved to intensify its ‘Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ campaign, pushing the GoI to introduce legislation in the upcoming session to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Karra also criticised the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, accusing the BJP of planning to manipulate the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.
He claimed the BJP consistently devises new ways to influence elections, citing alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra polls as an example. He further described the ongoing voter verification process in Bihar as unconstitutional.
