In US, Pakistan army chief threatens India with nuclear attack; MEA condemns ‘sabre-rattling’

Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has warned that the country could use nuclear weapons if it faced an existential threat in a future war with India.

Speaking to the Pakistani diaspora in Tampa, Florida, Munir reportedly said, “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us.”

He also threatened to destroy any Indian dam built on the Indus River following New Delhi’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty after the Pahalgam terror attack, Hindustan Times reported.

“We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does, we’ll destroy it with 10 missiles,” he was quoted as saying.

Munir described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and an “unresolved international issue,” and accused India of “aggression under Operation Sindoor,” calling it a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday condemned Munir’s comments, describing them as “nuclear sabre-rattling” and a reflection of the Pakistani military’s dangerous mindset.

The ministry said such remarks raise concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear command and control, particularly given its military’s links to terrorist groups.

Calling it “regrettable” that these threats were made on the soil of a friendly third country, the MEA stressed that India will not yield to nuclear blackmail and will take all necessary steps to safeguard its national security.
