A 13-year-old boy from Afghanistan managed to reach Delhi by hiding in the landing gear compartment of a Kabul-bound aircraft, officials said Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when KAM Air flight RQ-4401 landed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after a two-hour journey from Kabul. The teenager was soon sent back to Afghanistan on the same aircraft, sources confirmed to PTI.
According to officials quoted by the news agency, airline staff spotted the boy wandering near the plane after it landed and handed him over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). During questioning at Terminal 3, he revealed that he had slipped into the Kabul airport and climbed into the aircraft’s rear central landing gear compartment “out of curiosity.”
Security personnel later inspected the compartment and recovered a small red speaker that the boy had apparently carried with him. The aircraft was cleared after a thorough security and anti-sabotage check, officials said.
