Srinagar: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) observed World Heart Day 2025 with a series of events aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular health. The day-long programme, organised by the department of cardiology, began at 8:30am and continued till 2:30pm.
The activities commenced with a boat rally on Dal Lake, featuring SKIMS cardiology faculty, staff, and students. The rally highlighted the importance of heart health and conveyed preventive messages to the community symbolically and engagingly.
Later, a formal function was held at the SKIMS Auditorium, where experts deliberated on the alarming rise in cardiovascular disease, especially heart attacks, among the young population. Key sessions covered risk factors, including smoking, dietary preservatives, sedentary lifestyles, and strategies for prevention through timely interventions and healthy living.
The event also included a felicitation ceremony honouring the contributions of the dedicated cardiac staff and acknowledging the lifelong services of senior retired faculty members.
The programme was presided over by Professor Ashraf Ganai, who, in his address, emphasised the urgent need for public awareness and lifestyle modifications to curb the growing epidemic of heart disease in Kashmir. He praised the efforts of the department of cardiology in spearheading preventive and interventional initiatives at SKIMS.
The World Heart Day observance at SKIMS concluded with a renewed commitment from faculty, staff, and students to work collectively towards reducing the burden of cardiovascular ailments in the community.
