Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for Muslim-majority countries to take a central role in rebuilding the Gaza Strip, emphasising the importance of collective leadership in restoring the war-ravaged enclave.

“It appears that Hamas is committed to maintaining the ceasefire agreement,” Erdoğan said, adding that it is “essential for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to assume a leading role in Gaza’s reconstruction.” His comments come amid Israel’s forces breaching the fragile truce.

Continuous Israeli air raids and ground operations have flattened entire neighbourhoods, leaving vast swathes of Gaza in ruins. Hospitals, schools, and refugee camps have been repeatedly hit, while access to food, water, and medicine remains critically limited.

According to humanitarian agencies, tens of thousands of Palestinians—many of them women and children—have been killed since the escalation began, and more than two million people have been displaced or trapped in dire conditions. The UN has warned that Gaza’s humanitarian system is on the brink of total collapse, with residents facing acute shortages and widespread hunger.

Erdoğan reiterated that rebuilding Gaza must not be left solely to Western powers or international donors, arguing that Muslim nations bear both a moral and political responsibility to support the Palestinian people in their recovery and pursuit of statehood.
