The Indian Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday issued an advisory urging Indian nationals to leave Iran in view of widespread protests and rising violence across the country.

Indians, including tourists, students, pilgrims and businesspersons, were advised to exercise caution and exit Iran using available options such as commercial flights. The embassy asked citizens and persons of Indian origin to avoid protest areas, remain in contact with officials and keep track of local developments through the media.

Emergency contact numbers — +989128109115, +989128109101, +989128109102 and +989932179359 — and an email address, [email protected], were shared. Indian nationals were also advised to carry valid travel and identification documents at all times. Those not registered with the embassy were asked to complete registration online or seek assistance from family members in India.

According to a US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 2,571 people have died in the unrest so far. Iran is witnessing its largest wave of protests in years, driven by economic distress, soaring inflation of nearly 40%, and the sharp fall of the rial, now trading at about 1.4 million to the dollar.

The unrest has spread to multiple cities, evolving into leaderless demonstrations challenging the Islamic theocracy. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, has remained out of public view for days, adding to uncertainty amid the absence of a clear successor
