Baramulla: Police on Wednesday said it has disengaged Special Police Officer (SPO) Khalid Nazir Khan, a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg, from service with immediate effect after his alleged involvement in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police, on April 23, 2026, a naka checking operation conducted by Police Station Kunzer at Wussan Crossing led to the interception of an Alto vehicle. The occupants, including the SPO, were found in suspicious circumstances.

During the search, police recovered syringes and needles from the occupants, while silver foil paper allegedly used for consuming narcotic substances was seized from the vehicle.

Following the recovery, FIR No. 46/2026 under Sections 8, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kunzer.

In view of his alleged involvement in the case and conduct deemed unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force, the SPO has been disengaged from service with immediate effect, police said.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse and misconduct, the Baramulla police said it remains committed to upholding discipline, integrity and accountability within its ranks.
