Patna: Due to ongoing heatwave conditions in Patna, the district administration has ordered the closure of all schools for students up to Class 8 until June 27, 2026.
The decision comes as daytime temperatures have remained around 38°C in recent days, causing concerns about the health and safety of children, particularly those attending classes during the afternoon.
Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar issued the directive under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. According to the order, all educational activities from pre-school through Class 8 will be suspended in both government and private schools across the district from June 22 to June 27.
The administration stated that the extreme heat could adversely affect children’s well-being, prompting the precautionary closure to reduce their exposure to high temperatures. School managements have been instructed to strictly follow the order, while the District Education Officer and other officials will oversee its implementation.
Parents have been urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses by limiting children’s outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day and following health and safety guidelines issued by the Health Department.
The suspension applies only to academic activities for students up to Class 8. Decisions regarding the reopening of schools will be made after reviewing weather conditions and assessing the situation further.
Many areas of Bihar have experienced rising temperatures and lower-than-expected rainfall in recent weeks. Authorities will continue monitoring weather developments before issuing any additional instructions.
Students and parents are advised to rely on official updates from the district administration and their schools for the latest information.
