Kishtwar: Machinery at the under-construction 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar was shifted to safety after flash flood waters entered the project premises following heavy rainfall, with authorities confirming that no damage has been caused to the project.

Officials said the sudden flash flood led to rainwater gushing into parts of the project site, prompting the timely relocation of project machinery as a precautionary measure.

They said there has been no loss of life or property in the incident and that the machinery was moved safely without sustaining any damage.

According to the authorities, a preliminary assessment has found that all components of the under-construction hydropower project remain intact and have not suffered any structural or operational damage despite the ingress of floodwater.

The clarification comes amid concerns triggered by reports of heavy rainfall and flash floods in the Kishtwar region affecting the project site.

Authorities said there is no cause for concern and that the situation is under control, while monitoring of the project area continues in view of the prevailing weather conditions. [KNT]
