New Delhi: Delhi Police has denied permission for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to hold its proposed march to Parliament on July 20, saying no request for such a procession has been approved.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma said the CJP had neither sought nor received permission to march towards Parliament. He added that no authorisation had been granted for the proposed rally.
Police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) remain in force, allowing protests only at the designated site at Jantar Mantar and only with prior permission. Under the restrictions, gatherings of five or more people, protest marches and demonstrations are prohibited outside the notified protest venue.
The police have stepped up security across the national capital ahead of the Parliament session, with additional personnel deployed around the Parliament complex and other key government installations.
Sharma warned that anyone violating the prohibitory orders would face legal action and appealed to the public to avoid participating in unauthorised gatherings or marches.
The development comes as the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar enters its second month. Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a prolonged hunger strike, was recently hospitalised. Following his hospitalisation, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke took over the indefinite fast.
Despite the police refusal, the CJP has announced that it will proceed with its planned march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament. The proposed march has prompted heightened security arrangements amid concerns over possible law and order issues during the ongoing Parliament session.
Police have urged protesters to remain within the permitted protest site and cooperate with authorities to maintain public order.
