Achan dumping site a major concern for Srinagar; CM Omar assures timely action, project to be completed in 18 months
Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the government will take timely action to address the issues surrounding the Achan dumping site in Srinagar and assured that no blacklisted contractor will be allowed to take part in the tendering process.
The issue was flagged in the Assembly by Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul, who pointed out the hardships faced by people due to the solid waste management site. The concern was supported by all eight MLAs from Srinagar, who sought urgent intervention.
Replying to the discussion, as per GNS, the Chief Minister said a comprehensive plan for solid waste management at Achan is already in place.
He said the deadline for submission of bids is October 1, after which the tenders will be opened and allotment done as per procedure. The project, he said, is targeted to be completed within 18 months.
CM Omar assured the House that the government will ensure necessary and timely measures to improve the waste management system at Achan.
It is pertinent to mention that the government has recently announced a multi-crore project to address the long-pending solid waste management problem at Achan.
