Stone pelting during encounters instigated by Pak through social media: DGP

‘Coming to encounter sites is like committing suicide’

Srinagar: Shesh Paul Vaid, the Director General of Police on Thursday said that youth coming to encounter sites is like committing suicide and alleged that the phenomenon of stone pelting during operations is being instigated by Pakistan.

Vaid said that there are social media accounts (traced across the border) which start instigating youth as soon as an encounter starts.

“There is misuse of social media by the people who are inimical to the peace of Valley and our country. As the encounter starts they start instigating young boys through social media to reach the place of encounter and throw stones so that a militant can get out of the spot. Some of these accounts have been traced across (Pakistan),” the DGP told ANI.

The top cop also pointed out that going to an encounter site is like committing suicide.

“Even security forces during an encounter take cover of a vehicle or a house. Youths coming to the encounter site are like committing suicide. Bullet does not see who is coming or who it will hit,” he said.

Vaid pointed out that youth are being radicalized and brainwashed which is a challenge for the forces.

He also appealed to the youth to stay indoors during an operation and not to get used at the hands of those who want to create chaos in the valley.

“My appeal to young boys is they should remain in their homes and not come to encounter sites. Youth must understand that they are being used by the people for their political gains who just want to create chaos in the valley,” he said.
