Doctors had earlier threatened valley wide strike against SDM Zainapora

Srinagar: In a bid to pacify the escalating confrontation between the medicos and state’s civil administration, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir held a detailed meeting with the doctors and SDM Zainapora to avert any strike call issued by the medicos.

The doctors had earlier threatened Valley Wide strike call if action is not taken by the government against SDM Zainapora who according to them misbehaved and used ‘unofficial’ language with the hospital staff during one of his visits to the sub-district hospital of the area.

On the other hand, SDM Zainapora had refuted the allegations against him- stating that he didn’t mis-behave with anyone in the hospital.

Meanwhile,  sai that he had written a detailed letter to the government asking it to resolve the issue in an amicable way.

“Misbehaviour with the doctors is unacceptable. We need to nurture this fraternity that has been disc arching its duty with more professionalism and integrity,” said Dr. Saleem, Director Health Services, Kashmir, adding that he however wouldn’t want the doctors to go on strike and rather ways and means should be found to resolve the issue sans any delay.

Meanwhile, top government sourcessaid that a detailed meeting was chaired by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir in his office here wherein the issue was discussed at threadbare. The confabulations, as per insiders, lasted for several hours and ways were discussed to end the crises amicably.

The aggrieved doctors had given 7 days time to the government to take against the SDM in question otherwise they would be forced to go for a Valley wide strike.

Pertinently, Doctors and paramedics are holding protests, wearing black badges around their arms against the alleged misbehaviour of SDM Zainapora with a consultant surgeon on Saturday, last week, at CHC Zainapora, Shopian.

The call for protest was given by Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) led by Dr Suhail Naik and supported by J&K Doctors Coordination Committee, (JKDCC) – an amalgam of various doctors associations across the state.

In a statement, Dr Naik condemned the “ill treatment” of the doctor by SDM and sought action against the SDM.

The doctors have threatened of pen down strike if no action is taken against the erring official.

The strike will be followed by intensified agitation programme the onus of which will lie exclusively on government, he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the convener JKDCC Dr M Yousuf Tak supported the stand of DAK and stressed upon authorities to take immediate action in the matter failing which the health personnel has no choice but to launch a state wide agitation.
