Tassaduq Mufti resigns as coordinator of CM’s grievance cell

Tassaduq Mufti on Friday resigned from the post of Co-ordinator J&K Chief Minister’s office. Tassaduq submitted his resignation “with immediate effect”. The copy of his resignation was mailed by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the media.

The resignation comes two days after the government initiated the process to have Tassaduq Mufti, brother of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, nominated as member of the Legislative Council.

Sources said Tassaduq is likely to be inducted into the council of ministers, adding that as soon as this will happen, a minor ministerial reshuffle is expected to take place wherein the government may induct another minister (other than Tassaduq) after dropping one of the sitting ministers.

Tassaduq returned to the state after his father Mufti Muhammad Sayeed fell ill. He was introduced to the party and politics by his sister Mehbooba after Sayeed passed away in January 2016.

He was also the PDP’s candidate for Anantnag parliamentary segment where the election couldn’t be held due to “volatile situation.”

Later, he was appointed as coordinator of Chief Minister’s grievance cell, a platform set-up by the government for redressal of public grievances.
