At least three people were killed and more than a dozen wounded in multiple suicide bombing in Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said, the latest in a series of attacks in the war-torn country.

One suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the diplomatic area of Kabul during the morning rush hour, killing at least one person and wounding six others, interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish told Kabul based TOLO News.

“Around 08:20 am local time a suicide bombing in Kabul in PD9, in Shashdarak area, killed one and wounded six others,” Danish said initially. The wounded were transferred to a nearby hospital and two of them are in critical condition, Danish said.

Initial reports put the death toll at one but the ministry of interior’s deputy spokesman Nusrat Rahimi later confirmed three people were killed and five wounded. Rahimi added that among the five wounded, two are security force members and two are from an airline. The fifth is a civilian.

Rahimi said that the CCTV footage shows the suicide attacker was well dressed with a tie. He said security forces noticed something suspicious and when they confronted him he detonated his device.

No confirmation was given on the type of device used but unconfirmed reports indicate the bomber had been wearing an explosive vest. This comes on the heels of the ministry’s recent launch of its new security plan for Kabul city which has seen a marked increase in road closures and check points.
