The gunfight that started on Friday in Dooru area of Anantnag in south Kashmir ended with the killing of two militants, police said today.

The police said that preliminary investigation suggests that both the killed terrorists are from Pakistan.”Further based on the seizures made from the spot and other incriminating materials collected so far have confirmed that the killed terrorists were a part of outlawed Jaish e Muhammad outfit,” the police said.

Earlier, sources had said that one of the militants was Asif Nasir Malik of Verinag. However, his family members said the deceased was not Asif.

The gunfight, according to the police, broke out last night between militants and the government forces in Shistargam in Dooru area.

An official said that SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Shistargam village late Friday night after inputs about the presence of militants. He said that the militants opened fire on the forces, triggering a gunfight.

Funeral prayers in absentia were held for the militants in Khargund village of Dooru in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Meanwhile, Internet continues to remain suspended since last night in both Kulgam and Anantnag districts. A complete shutdown is being observed in Anantnag district against the killings.
