China hails India, Pakistan for halting fire, agreeing to ‘go back’ to 2003 Ceasefire Pact

The decision of halting cross border firing by India and Pakistan and agreeing to ‘fully implement’ the 2003 Ceasefire Pact has been welcomed by China.

On Tuesday, New Delhi and Islamabad agreed to implement the ceasefire pact after persistent exchange of gunfire in resulted in civilian and military casualties on both sides.

“We have noted relevant reports and we commend these positive actions taken by the two sides,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said when asked about the development.

“We hope that they properly resolve their disputes through dialogue and consultation and maintain regional peace and stability,” Hua added.

India and Pakistan have a long-standing dispute over Kashmir.

China on Tuesday avoided making any direct comment over Pakistan’s latest Gilgit-Baltistan order, but added that CPEC, which goes through the region, will not affect their stand on Kashmir issue that it should be resolved between India and Pakistan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing that “Kashmir issue is a historical baggage between India and Pakistan and therefore shall be resolved between the two sides through dialogue and consultation”.
