Decision to extend ceasefire to be taken after reviewing security situation, says Rajnath Singh

Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that the decision on the extension of the ceasefire will be taken after reviewing the security situation of Jammu and Kashmir.

“After proper consultation with public representatives and reviewing the security situation, a decision in connection with the extension of ceasefire will be taken,” Singh said while on a visit to Kupwara.

He added, “The security scenario across the state will be reviewed at the highest level soon and thereafter decision in connection with the extension of ceasefire will be taken.”

Singh, who is on a two day visit the Kashmir, arrived in Kupwara this morning and met several delegations of people.  The representatives of different delegations submitted list of demands to the home minister and urged him to take concrete steps for the welfare of border people of Kupwara.

He said, ‘five battalions of IR will be raised and sixty percent vacancies will be reserved for the people of border area.’

Singh on Thursday while urging the Resistance Leaders to hold talks for peace, said that for successful talks it is not necessary to speak to ‘like-minded people but right minded people’.

“We can talk to anyone. We are open to talks with all. But talks should be for peace. For talks, you need not to speak to like-minded people but it is important to talk to right-minded people,” Rajnath Singh told reporters.

Earlier, before his arrival, the government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar had said that Singh’s is not just a usual visit but part of a ‘bigger exercise which started with the announcement of the Ramzan ceasefire announced by the Modi government.

While addressing youth in the Indoor Stadium along with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Singh said that cases against ‘children who were misled into stone pelting’, will be withdrawn as the Government of India is ‘concerned about the youth of JK’.
