Iran’s intelligence ministry has arrested 27 members of a ‘terrorist network’ claiming that it planned to attack during the last week of Ramzan, with a large numbers of weapons confiscated from the network.

“The group plotted to carry out terrorist operations in Tehran and some other important cities,” a statement on the Ministry website read. “They published pictures in cyberspace threatening the honourable nation of Iran with revenge and murder.”

The attacks were to coincide on the auspicious occasion of Qadr and on Jerusalem Day, a day marked to underline the oppression of Palestinians.

Recently, the Revolutionary Guards reported that they had fought off three attempts by terrorist groups who they claimed were going to infiltrate from Iraq.

Iran has in the past directly engaged with the ‘Islamic State’ and Al-Qaeda in Iraq and Syria. It has claimed that it has been a target for ‘Sunni Jihadists’.
