JK Governor Malik meets Rajnath, discusses panchayat polls

Newly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik met Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh today to discuss about the oncoming panchayat elections, PTI reported. The half-an-hour meeting also saw discussions on the law and order situation in the valley, which is currently under governor’s rule.

They discussed about the forthcoming panchayat polls, a Home Ministry official said.

The panchayat election, which will be held next month will elect 4,130 sarpanch and 29,719 panch. This election will be held after a long hiatus from 2011.

Earlier, Malik took oath as the 13th Jammu and Kashmir governor. He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Gita Mittal at a function at Raj Bhawan here.

Former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were among over 400 guests present at the ceremony.
