Locals appeal to the Governor to order enquiry into revenue authority’s conduct

Srinagar: Mass land filling of agricultural land and areas close to Hokersar wet land in HMT area of Srinagar has enraged people demanding immediate halt to the activities besides a stern punishment to the revenue authorities for overlooking the violation of agrarian laws.

The locals at HMT have appealed to the Governor for his personal intervention and said the illegal and random landfling has posed a serious threat not only to their lives during flood times but also has the potential to cause a huge damage to the agricultural activities in the area.

They said that in Gund Hassi Bhat the agricultural land would be submerged as the landfling would block the passage of water.

Residents said that nearly fourty kanals of Agriculture land is being filled by land mafia under the nose of Tehsildar Shaltang and flood and irrigation department.

The Mafia has also began filling the land close to Hokersar wet land along Srinagar Baramulla highway and that too not far away from the residence of Tehsildar and office of the concerned Patwari.

Locals alleged that the wet land is at the verge of extinction as revenue and irrigation authorities have gone to deliberate slumber. They added that the revenue authorities are even involved in changing the nature of land in lieu of huge sums of money and appealed governor to order an enquiry.

They also said that they had approached Deputy Commissioner Srinagar who had promised action but nothing was done later.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar could not be reached for his comments despite repeated attempts.
