New political map unveiled by Imran Khan shows JK as part of Pakistan

Srinagar: As the government of India is busy preparing celebrations to mark the first anniversary of the revocation of Article 370 that gave a special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, a new political map unveiled by Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan shows JK as part of Pakistan.

Pakistan PM, according to a report published by a Delhi based newspaper The New Indian Express, has decided to present the new political map at the United Nations as well.

The Imran Khan cabinet approved the new map in which the complete Jammu and Kashmir, is shown integrated with Pakistan.

Khan, according to the report, said that JK is “illegally occupied” by India and the disputed territory and its status is to be decided with relevant UNSC resolutions.

“This is the most historic day in Pakistan’s history,” the report quoted Khan said while addressing a news conference after chairing the meeting of the federal cabinet, which approved the new map.

“Today is a historic day we have launched a new political map of Pakistan which is as per the aspirations of the entire nation as well as the people of Kashmir,” Khan said during the conference adding that the new map is backed by all political parties of the country.

He said the new map is also opposing the Indian government’s “illegal act” of August 5 last year.

“Pakistan will continue to make efforts for the people of Kashmir,” said Khan adding that the dispute can only be resolved through political means not military.

On August 5, 2019, the government of India abrogated Article 370 of Indian constitution that granted the special status to JK and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union Territories- JK and Ladakh.

On Monday, authorities in Kashmir ordered curfew on August 4 and 5 in wake of the first anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

“Senior superintendent of Srinagar has reported that a series of inputs have been received suggesting that separatist and Pak sponsored groups are planning to observe 5th August 2020 as Black Day, therein apprehensions of violation action or protests are not ruled out. There are specific inputs about violent protests endangering public life and property,” reads an order issued by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Monday.

In order to “prevent violence,” the administration said its imminent to impose curfew in the Srinagar district.

Pertinently, Bhartiya Janta Party’s JK unit has decided to mark the first anniversary of revocation of Article 370 with mega celebrations from August 5 for 15 days and the day first will witness the unfurling of tricolour in all zonal, tehsils and district headquarters.

The party leadership believes that the historic decision taken last year has helped restore peace in the region but COVID has played a spoilsport as far as the development of the erstwhile is concerned.

Earlier, on July 3, BJP’s General Secretary Ram Madhav said that party’s J&K unit is of the opinion that statehood should be given back to the erstwhile state when the time is favourable.
