Three days after testing negative for COVID, Amit Shah admitted to AIIMS

New Delhi: India’s Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday after he complained of “fatigue and body ache,” the hospital authorities said.

“Amit Shah has been complaining of fatigue and body aches for last three-four days. He has tested negative for COVID-19. He has been admitted to AIIMS for COVID care. He is comfortable and is continuing his work from hospital,” AIIMS media and protocol division chairperson Dr Aarti Vij said in a press statement.

Earlier this month, Amit Shah had tested positive for COVID and was subsequently admitted to private hospital Medanta for treatment. Shah confirmed the news himself by tweeting about his COVID positive reports and the following process of getting isolated and hospitalised.

Shah, 55, was discharged from the Medanta in Gurgaon last week after testing negative for COVID-19. He had tweeted on August 14 he would be in home isolation for a few more days on the advice of his doctors.

A day later he was seen taking part in Independence Day celebrations and hoisting the national flag at his official residence, an NDTV report read.

A spike of 55,079 fresh cases took India’s COVID tally past 27 lakh on Tuesday just a day after it crossed the 26-lakh mark, while 19.77 lakh people have so far recuperated from the disease pushing the recovery rate to 73.18 per cent.
