Srinagar:  Two armed forces personnel were killed in a militant attack at HMT on Srinagar-Baramulla highway on Thursday afternoon.

Police officials said that militants fired at armed forces personnel in HMT area, resulting in serious injuries to two of them.

However, official sources said both the injured army personnel who were removed to the army’s 92-base hospital, succumbed to their injuries later.

“Initial reports said that three militants were travelling in a Maruti car and two of them were carrying weapons, who fired indiscriminately at the army personnel leaving two of them seriously wounded. Reportedly, both the injured personnel have succumbed,” news agency KNO quoted Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar as saying.

The IGP Kashmir said that armed forces are chasing the Maruti car and it seems that Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit has carried out the attack. “There seems to be the involvement of one or two foreign militants. By evening, we will ascertain the outfit that carried out the attack,” he said.

Meanwhile, senior officers have rushed to the spot and the area has been sealed.
