Srinagar: The family of a Kashmiri human rights lawyer and a civil rights activist, Parvez Imroz, has denied a raid at their residence by the National Investigation Agency of India on Thursday.

Earlier in the morning, India Today reported that Imroz’s house in Kralpora area of Srinagar has been raided by the probing agency, and searches are being conducted by the sleuths of NIA accompanied by Jammu and Kahsmir Police and paramilitary forces.

A local news agency Kashmir Dot Com reported that “searches are being carried out at his residential house in Kanthbagh Kralpora.”

Kamaljit Sandhu, a journalist working as Deputy Editor in India Today, also tweeted about the raid saying the residence of Parvez  Amroz was “raided”.

“Sources say NIA raid at the residence of Parvez  Amroz at Muchawa, Nowgam, Srinagar,” she tweeted, adding “NIA is tight lipped.”

However, the family confirmed to Free Press Kashmir that no raid has been carried out by the National Investigation Agency of India.

“The news reports are fake, nothing sort of happened,” a family member told Free Press Kashmir.

Pertinently, on Monday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India raided prominent Kashmir-based Human Rights Defender, Khurram Parvez’s residence in Sonwar area of Srinagar and simultaneously his office at Amira Kadal.

“Early morning NIA with police raided our house and took our mobile phones and laptops. The search lasted for up to 1:30 in the noon. They searched every nook and corner of our house and took some books from the study, Khurrum’s laptop and mobile phone and also my two mobile phones,” Khuram’s wife Sameena had told Free Press Kashmir.

She said that they told Khurrum to accompany them for questioning but later in the evening the family was told that he has been arrested.

“They handed over his arrest memo in the evening and told us to get his clothes and blankets,” Sameena recalled.

The arrest memo, a copy of which is lying with Free Press Kashmir says he was arrested in the case, FIR RC-30/2021/NIA/DLI filed on November 6, under IPC Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging, attempting to wage, abetting waging of war against the government), and 121A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by Section 121); and Sections 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy), 18B (recruiting of any person or persons for the terrorist act) and 40 (raising funds for a terrorist organisation) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

After the news of the arrest of prominent Khurram Parvez spread globally, various internationally recognised rights bodies and activists, criticized his arrest and demanded his immediate release.
