On the seventh day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday said that about 6,000 Russians have been killed in the first six days of the war.

News agency Reuters cited Zelenskyy as stating this as Russian airborne forces landed in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, which has been heavily shelled in recent days.

According to the city mayor, at least 21 people have been killed, and 112 have been injured in shelling in the previous 24 hours.

Earlier in the day, in his first State of the Union speech, US President Joe Biden threatened to make Vladimir Putin “pay the price” for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, air raid alerts were issued in Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv where residents were advised to go to the nearest shelter. US President Joe Biden on Tuesday spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussed providing support to Ukraine against Russian military actions.

“I just spoke with President Zelenskyy to discuss our continued support for Ukraine — including security assistance and humanitarian aid — as it defends itself against Russian aggression. We will hold Russia accountable, and our sanctions are already having a devastating impact,” Biden tweeted.

Taking to Twitter, Zelenskyy said “Just had a conversation with @POTUS. The American leadership on anti-Russian sanctions and defense assistance to Ukraine was discussed. We must stop the aggressor as soon as possible. Thank you for your support!”

On Tuesday, Russia intensified the shelling on the sixth day of its military operations in Ukraine by targeting the capital city Kyiv as well as the second-largest city Kharkiv.
