17-year-old drowns after being chased by police in Budgam, police says ‘circumstances being investigated’

Budgam: On Friday afternoon, a seventeen-year-old drowned in a rivulet as police was chasing a group of protestors who allegedly pelted stones at them in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

As per reports, the drowning took place in Sukhnag rivulet of Magam village when the personnel of JK police chased the protestors as forces had also resorted to shelling after allegedly being pelted stones.

The deceased has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohd Mir, a resident of Gund Hasibhat, Srinagar. His body was fished out by the locals in Magam and subsequently taken to his native place for burial.

Police officials said that they are enquiring about the circumstances which lead to the drowning of the individual as an investigation has also been taken up in this regard.
