Tension in Rajouri after multiple killings, authorities postpone exams

Jammu: Amid protests following the killing of four people in a firing incident in Rajouri, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) on Monday postponed the semester-end examinations scheduled on Monday.

“It is hereby notified for information of all the concerned that the University End Semester examinations scheduled for January 2, 2023 are hereby postponed. Fresh date shall be notified separately,” Controller examination, BGSBU, said in a communication.

Earlier, four people were killed and 6 others were injured in an indiscriminate firing at them in Dangri village of Rajouri district on Sunday.

A police officer said that the firing incident took place at 3 houses separated at a distance of around 50 metres from each other at upper Dangri village in Rajouri.

“An incident of firing allegedly by two armed men reported in village dungri, 7/8 km from Rajouri. Some people were injured and some reported succumbed. Police and army have rushed to the spot. Further details will follow,” the officer said on Sunday evening, adding, “Search operation has been launched in the area”.

This morning, a minor boy was killed and five others were injured, one of them critically, in an explosion outside one of the three houses where unknown persons allegedly resorted to indiscriminate firing yesterday evening.

Official sources said that the explosion took place outside the house of Rajendr Kumar whose son Deepak Kumar was among the four people killed in yesterday’s firing incident.

Amid the chaos, protests were witnessed in the area by locals seeking action against the attackers.
