NC got what it wanted and deserved: Omar on SC’s party symbol verdict

Omar Abdullah

As Supreme Court on Wednesday imposed fine on Leh administration and allowed  National Conference to use party symbol, plough, for the upcoming Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) polls, Omar Abdullah said that the part got what it wanted and deserved.

The ruling comes after a long and arduous legal battle where the party alleged biased interference by the BJP and the Ladakh administration in denying them their rightful symbol.

The top court today set aside the election for Hill Council Kargil scheduled on September 10 and directed UT’s administration to issue a fresh notification for the electoral exercise within seven days.

The SC held that National Conference is entitled to the symbol of “plough” for the election. It also imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh on Ladakh administration for filing the plea.

This victory is being celebrated by party and its supporters across the region, marking a significant moment in their political journey. Omar, the former chief miniser of Jammu and Kashmir also praised the advocacy of  Shariq Reyaz, who argued their case both in front of the High Court and the Supreme Court.
