The Special Forces for Environmental Security in Mecca have apprehended an Indian expat for unlawfully disposing of untreated sewage water, putting the man at risk of severe repercussions due to this violation of environmental laws.
As per reports, the accused was caught dumping untreated wastewater into the desert in Mecca, posing a serious threat to the local ecosystem. The Special Forces acted promptly, implementing necessary measures against the individual.
In accordance with Saudi law, penalties for environmental offenses are severe, with fines of up to 30 million riyals for dumping untreated wastewater into undesignated areas.
Offenders may also face imprisonment for up to 10 years, and in certain cases, both fines and imprisonment may be imposed.
Saudi Authorities have called upon the public to actively participate in safeguarding the environment, urging individuals to report any activities harmful to the environment or wildlife.
