Jammu: After the custodial death of three civilians in Poonch, the Indian Army has taken action by transferring a Brigadier and three other officers responsible for operations in Surankote.

Deliberations on potential disciplinary measures are underway pending a comprehensive internal investigation. While police have initiated a First Information Report (FIR) for further examination, the Army has not officially disclosed details.

Brigadier Padam Acharya, the Brigade Commander of the Rashtriya Rifles, has been relocated along with three other senior Army officers in response to the civilian deaths and injuries to approximately 10 others, Daily Excelsior reported.

Although the Army has not provided official information, officials have confirmed the stability of the condition of the 10 injured civilians— five admitted to Surankote and five to Poonch hospitals. Regular medical attention is being provided, and the patients are reportedly responding well to treatment, the report said.

The police FIR is part of ongoing investigations into the deaths of three civilians, who, along with others, were reportedly taken into custody by the Army for questioning following the ambush that resulted in the killing of four Army personnel by militants in Poonch on December 21. The civilians were later found dead under mysterious circumstances on the same evening.
