China’s southern Xinjiang experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake late Monday night, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 80 km.
The NCS shared the event details on X, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 7.2, Occurred on 22-01-2024, 23:39:11 IST, Lat: 40.96 & Long: 78.30, Depth: 80 Km, Location: Southern Xinjiang, China.” The tremors were felt not only in the epicenter but also in the Delhi-NCR region and other parts of India.
Additional information is yet to be provided. It’s noteworthy that this earthquake follows a 6.2 magnitude quake in China’s Gansu and Qinghai provinces just a month ago, resulting in the unfortunate death of at least 131 individuals.
