Saudi Arabia organised yoga championship in Makkah

The second Saudi Open Yoga Asana Championship took place in Makkah.

The second Saudi Open Yoga Asana Championship took place in Makkah on Saturday, attracting the participation of numerous youngsters.

Al-Wahda FC hosted the event, featuring 54 girls and 10 boys from various cities including Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, and others, who competed for various prizes.

Umang Dwan, the competition director, told Arab News that engaging in yoga asana sports can contribute to enhancing the mental and physical well-being of young individuals. He also mentioned the potential for this sport to be included in future Olympic events, viewing it as a promising start for Saudi Arabia.

Nouf Al-Marwaai, the president of the Saudi Yoga Committee, extended gratitude to the Ministry of Sports for supporting their endeavors to promote various forms of yoga. Mohammed Shahid Alam, the Consul General of India, highlighted the recognition of yoga as a sports activity in Saudi Arabia since 2017 and commended the efforts of the Saudi Yoga Committee.

Divya Kumari Dwan, the vice president of the South Asian branch of the Yoga Sports Federation, visited the Kingdom to conduct two courses for advanced yoga trainers in Riyadh and Jeddah. The inaugural Saudi Open Yoga Asana Championship took place in Jeddah in 2022.
