25 local, 30 foreign militants active in JK: Police

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that there are 25 local and 30 foreign militants active in the region.

One militant is active in Srinagar district, Additional Director General of Police Law and order, Vijay Kumar said.

“Overall 25 locals, 25-30 Foreign militants are active in JK,” he said.

About the recent killings of two Punjab based carpenters in Srinagar, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi said that the main accused involved in the killing has been arrested.

During a press conference at Police Control Room, Birdi said that upon registering case FIR no. 08/2024 u/s 302, 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, 15,16,20 ULA(P) Act in PS Shaheed Ganj, Srinagar police detected the case leading to the identification of the accused who carried out the attack on these two people from Punjab and subsequent recovery of weapon of offence and other incriminating material.

IGP said that based upon clinching evidence collected during investigation, cops identified and arrested the main accused Adil Manzoor Langoo, son of  Manzoor Ahmad Langoo, a resident of Zaldager Srinagar.

It came to fore that the accused had conspired with his handler  in Pakistan for commission of the crime. Accused was a highly motivated to commit the crime, the top officer said.

His handler in Pakistan contacted the man via social media and motivated him to carry out the atattack.

In furtherance of the conspiracy, the handler provided him the weapon after which he motivated him to carry out the attack.

On February 7, militants fired at two carpenters, both residents of Amritsar in Punjab, in the Shallakdal area of old Srinagar city.

While one of the carpenters Amrit Pal Singh was killed, Rohit was critically injured in the attack, who on next day succumbed to his injuries.
