New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to meet AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail on April 15, according to officials on Friday.
The meeting will take place in the afternoon inside the ‘Mulakat Jangla’ under tight security measures, as Mann is provided with Z+ security cover, stated jail officials.
The ‘Mulakat Jangla’ is a room within the jail that features an iron mesh separating the inmate from the visitor. This setup allows for conversation while maintaining physical separation.
Since Kejriwal’s arrest, his wife Sunita Kejriwal and former personal secretary Bibhav Kumar have visited him three times in jail.
Earlier in the day, officials from Tihar jail, Delhi Police, and Punjab Police discussed security arrangements for Mann’s meeting with Kejriwal, who is detained in the prison.
Punjab Additional Director General of Police A.K. Pandey and an Assistant Commissioner of Police officer participated in the meeting, led by Director General (Tihar) Sanjay Baniwal.
The meeting commenced at 11 am at the office of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajiv Parihar in Tihar and concluded around 3 pm, as per an official.
The purpose of the meeting was to finalise security arrangements and fulfill procedural formalities outlined in Delhi Prison Rules for Mann’s meeting with Kejriwal.
Mann had previously requested a meeting with the Delhi Chief Minister, who is held in Tihar’s jail number 2 in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal is in judicial custody until April 15.
Kejriwal has submitted a list of six individuals, including the Punjab Chief Minister, whom he wishes to meet in jail. He was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate.
