More than 40 Students Federation of India (SFI) members were arrested as they attempted to hold pro-Palestine protests outside the US consulate in the Chennai on Tuesday.

The SFI members had gathered near the US Consulate and attempted to hold a protest condemning Israel’s genocide in Palestine, as reported by India Today.

According to the Chennai Police the students also attempted to protest against the US for supporting Israel.

“Israel is targeting hospitals and educational institutions in Palestine. Several thousands have either died or were badly injured in this attack while capitalist countries including the US are supporting this atrocity. Students across the world are protesting against the attack”, stated G Aravindasamy, State Secretary, SFI.

The police surrounded the students, stopped them from marching towards the US Consulate, and forcibly detained them after they refused to disperse.

Israel declared war in Gaza last year following a retaliatory attack by Hamas forces on October 7, which was against decades long occupational crimes that Israel has been committing in Gaza. The genocide in Gaza has claimed more than 35,000 lives, while millions have been displaced. The majority of the victims are women and children.
