Attacker who shot Trump killed, identified as Thomas Crooks, says FBI

After the attack on Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the officials have identified the accused as Thomas Matthew Crooks. He allegedly opened fire, injuring Trump in the ear.

The shocking incident, which left a bystander dead and two others critically injured, was captured live on news channels. Trump was quickly rushed off stage by Secret Service agents, with blood seen on his face.

The attack occurred just as Trump had started speaking at his final rally before the Republican National Convention. Thousands of his supporters were in attendance when the shooting happened.

Trump later recounted the incident on his Social site, stating, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.” He expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their rapid response, adding, “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Crooks as the shooter in the attempted assassination. Crooks, 20, was killed by security officials during the incident.

The FBI confirmed Crooks’ identity and noted he was registered as a Republican.

According to the FBI statement quoted by NBC and CBS, “The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.”
