Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Tel Aviv, Israel, which resulted in one death and at least ten injuries, Al Jazeera reported.
The Houthi spokesperson announced the attack on social media, stating that the Iran-aligned group targeted Tel Aviv, calling it “occupied Palestine.”
The Houthis claimed they used a new drone capable of evading interceptor systems and radar detection. The Israeli military has launched an investigation into why air defence systems failed to intercept the drone, noting that it was a large UAV with extensive range capabilities. Israel’s air force has increased patrols to safeguard the skies, and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has vowed retaliation against those who harm Israel.
The explosion occurred near the US embassy office in Tel Aviv, with broken glass and damaged buildings evident at the site.
The Israeli police found a man’s body near the explosion, and investigations are ongoing. The attack has heightened anxiety in Israel, leading to a ban on Al Jazeera’s broadcasting in the country.
Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Jamjoom highlighted concerns about the effectiveness of Israel’s radar systems and the implications of the attack during a period of high alert.
