New  Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court instructed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to form a three-member panel of experts to determine the correct answer for a NEET-UG 2024 exam question, which allegedly has two correct answers due to discrepancies between the old and new NCERT syllabus.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, granted grace marks to some students as a corrective measure. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, ordered the expert panel to submit their findings by 12 noon on Tuesday.

This directive follows the NTA’s release of center and city-wise results, with student identities masked to address anomalies in the marking patterns. The results highlighted unusual high scores from specific centers.

As the Supreme Court continues to hear the case, the delays in resolving the NEET issues, along with the cancellation and retesting of UGC-NET and CUET exams, have disrupted admissions beyond the July 15 deadline for Delhi University.

Jaun Samuel, a Delhi resident awaiting CUET results, expressed frustration over the delays. A teacher from a private university in Meerut noted that private institutions are exploiting the situation, pressuring students and parents to secure seats amid uncertainty, as reported by The Week.

Candidates from NEET and UGC-NET are also awaiting the Supreme Court’s final decision. Some universities plan to compensate for lost time by increasing class hours and reducing holidays, but teachers argue that students should not bear the consequences of the NTA’s mistakes.
