New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to mandate a reexamination for the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduates (NEET UG 2024).
The court emphasized that canceling the entire exam would be unjustified based on established principles and the evidence presented.
Admissions to medical colleges across the country for undergraduate programs depend on NEET UG scores.
Petitioners, who were NEET candidates, had requested a reexamination due to irregularities such as question paper leaks. This year’s NEET UG faced accusations of widespread question paper leaks and cheating.
Both the government of India and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, opposed the cancellation of NEET 2024.
The apex court instructed the government of India and the NTA to provide details regarding the use of question papers stored at Canara Bank branches.
While one set of question papers was kept at State Bank of India (SBI) branches, another set was stored at Canara Bank branches as a backup in case of any issues with the SBI papers.
Despite this, the Canara Bank papers were reportedly used at certain centers.
