Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, stirred controversy by implying a potential “collusion” regarding the increasing infiltration attempts in Jammu, despite the heavy presence of Indian Army personnel.

“Tell me, with so many troops on our borders, how are these people still entering? How are these narcotics still coming in? There’s collusion… for our destruction,” Abdullah remarked to party members in Kishtwar.

“Mujhe bataiye, itni fauj hai hamare border pe…Phir bhi ye log kaise aa rahe hain. Yeh dawaiyan kaise aa rahi hain. Mile huwe hain. Hamari barbadi ke liye mile hue hain.”

Reacting to his statement, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jammu-Kashmir unit criticized Abdullah for what they termed an anti-national mindset.

The BJP shared a video of Abdullah’s remarks, accusing the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference president of trying to mislead the people of the Union Territory.

Later, in an interview with ANI, Abdullah questioned, “There are around 200-300 militants… where have they come from? Someone is double-crossing… the Centre should be held accountable. Even the Bangladesh border is porous now…”

Jammu has witnessed a surge in infiltrations, with numerous military operations in recent months, resulting in several casualties.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, up to July 21 this year, Jammu and Kashmir experienced 11 militancy-related incidents and 24 military operations, leading to the deaths of 28 people, including civilians and security personnel.

In response, J&K DGP RR Swain announced measures to strengthen village defense groups, an initiative involving local populations in village security. “…border villages with a history of standing up and participating alongside police and security forces… we aim to elevate their role in defeating infiltration and intrusion,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Rashtriya Bajrang Dal staged protests in Jammu today against Farooq Abdullah for his remarks “against the army”, and asked him to apologise for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the armed forces and the people.

Led by BJYM Jammu and Kashmir State president Arun Prabhat, scores of workers staged a protest against Abdullah’s statement.

Carrying the tricolour, protestors raised slogans against Abdullah and the NC. They also burnt effigies of the NC president, demanding a public apology for his remarks against the army.

“Farooq Abdullah has made derogatory statements against the army, casting aspersions on its character. He is also known for his anti-army and anti-government rhetoric. We are protesting against him,” Prabhat told reporters in Jammu.
