Multiple forest fires continue to rage across Turkiye’s western provinces of Aydin, Izmir, and Manisa, as firefighters tirelessly battle to contain the expanding blazes.
In Aydin’s Bozdogan district, aerial and ground teams are fighting a fire that erupted in Alhisar neighbourhood on Friday, which has now intensified near the border with Mugla’s Kavaklidere district, affecting several villages. Authorities have evacuated homes in Ormepinar as a precaution.
Izmir province is grappling with fires in three districts. A major blaze in Karsiyaka, which began on Thursday, has spread to residential and industrial areas, leading to the evacuation of three neighbourhoods. Overnight, helicopters with night-vision capabilities were deployed, with two planes and seven helicopters aiding efforts in the morning.
Additional fires broke out on Saturday in Izmir’s Urla and Menderes districts. Ground crews worked through the night, with aerial support resuming at daybreak to control the flames.
In Manisa province, a fire that started on Wednesday in Gordes district has spread to Salihli and Golmarmara districts. The Izmir Regional Directorate of Forestry has mobilised significant resources, including 7 helicopters, 66 fire trucks, and 550 personnel.
