Jammu: Security has been heightened at government hospitals in Jammu with the deployment of armed personnel to protect medical staff and doctors, officials announced.
This action follows the recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, which led to violence at the hospital.
Armed security forces, including CRPF, have been stationed at Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital and Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital.
According to a senior hospital official, GMC Hospital in Jammu is among the first in the country to implement armed security in its emergency premises for staff safety.
These measures were successfully put in place after detailed discussions with police authorities. A total of 34 police officers, including 15 female officers, equipped with arms and communication tools, will provide round-the-clock security.
They will be stationed at the emergency wing, mortuary, indoor wards, as well as corridors, staircases, and outpatient departments (OPDs).
