Pakistan and Russia are in discussions regarding the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet Islamabad’s future energy requirements, according to Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch speaking to Sputnik.

Baloch stressed upon the longstanding energy cooperation between the two nations and expressed satisfaction with recent negotiations. She noted that talks on LNG deliveries for Pakistan’s long-term energy needs are ongoing.

Baloch highlighted a previous contract for energy supplies, noting the successful delivery of 100,000 tonnes of oil to Pakistan last year as a positive outcome of this collaboration, as reported by Sputnik.

The report added that the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak also confirmed discussions on LNG deliveries during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Astana at the SCO summit. Novak mentioned Russia’s prior supply of 7 million barrels of oil to Pakistan.

Pakistani Energy Minister Muhammad Ali had previously mentioned discussions about a potential long-term contract with Russia for oil supply, considering annual volumes ranging from 0.7 to 1 million tonnes.
