On Friday, the Israeli military announced it had killed a Hamas leader in the northern occupied West Bank.
According to their statement, Israeli forces targeted a vehicle, resulting in the death of Wassem Hazem, identified as the “leader of the Hamas network” in Jenin.
The strike also killed two other Palestinians, Misbah al-Masharka and Arafat Amr, who were in the vehicle.
Hamas has not yet commented on the Israeli claims.
The Israeli military continued its operation in Jenin and its refugee camp for a third consecutive day. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Israel launched its largest military offensive since 2002 in Tulkarm and Jenin, as well as in the Al Fara refugee camp near Tubas, resulting in the deaths of 16 Palestinians, Anadolu reported quoting local sources.
Tensions remain high across the occupied West Bank amidst an intense Israeli assault on Gaza, which has claimed over 40,600 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, since October 7 of the previous year.
In the occupied territory, Palestinian figures report at least 670 deaths, nearly 5,400 injuries, and over 10,300 arrests.
On July 19, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark opinion declaring Israel’s long-standing occupation of Palestinian land unlawful and calling for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
