Srinagar: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, will participate in two election rallies in Jammu and Kashmir on September 4 to support the candidates of the NC-Congress alliance, a senior Congress leader announced on Saturday.
AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir informed PTI that both the alliance’s candidates and the people of JK have expressed a strong desire for Gandhi to campaign in the Union Territory.
“Rahulji will visit JK on September 4 and will hold election rallies in both Kashmir and Jammu for the alliance candidates,” Mir stated.
Mir, who is running in the assembly elections from Dooru in south Kashmir, mentioned that Gandhi will address a rally at the Dooru stadium and is expected to hold another rally in the Sangaldan area of Jammu.
“We are pleased that he (Gandhi) accepted our invitation. This visit is for the first phase of campaigning, and he may return to J&K for subsequent phases,” Mir added.
The AICC General Secretary also noted that the Congress has scheduled over 40 star campaigners, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
