Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for drone and rocket assault on Israeli military bases, raising concerns of a potential full-scale war between the group and Israel.
Quoting sources, Al Jazeera reported that the attack, the largest since the clashes began on October 8, was in retaliation for the recent killing of senior commander Taleb Abdullah, also known as Abu Taleb, in an Israeli air raid in southern Lebanon.
The group targeted 15 Israeli positions, including some in the Golan Heights, with 150 rockets and 30 explosive drones. Israeli reports indicated that at least two people were injured and 15 fires were started due to the attack. The Israeli military confirmed that several launches were intercepted, though some caused damage.
Hezbollah framed the attack as both a response to Abdullah’s assassination and a show of support for Palestinian resistance in Gaza. Despite ongoing confrontations between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, the violence has mostly been concentrated in the border region, prompting many residents of southern Lebanon and northern Israel to flee.
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has stressed upon that the conflict concerns not only Palestine but also Lebanon’s future, including its natural resources. The group’s military strength, bolstered by Iranian support, has grown significantly since the 2006 war with Israel, further escalating tensions in the region.
