US Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has vowed to do everything possible to halt Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza if elected.
Speaking just two days before Election Day, Harris emphasised her commitment to ending the violence, returning hostages, alleviating Gaza’s suffering, ensuring Israel’s security, and supporting Palestinian rights to dignity, freedom, and self-determination. Her remarks, met with enthusiastic applause, came during a rally in Michigan, a key swing state.
With the election in a virtual tie between Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump, securing the majority in seven critical battleground states is essential. According to RealClearPolitics, Trump leads by a slim 0.1% nationally, with five polls showing a tie.
Michigan, home to a large Arab and Muslim population and carrying 15 Electoral College votes, is especially vital for Harris, along with Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Known as the “blue wall,” Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin were once reliably Democratic but went to Trump in 2016 before Biden recaptured them in 2020.
Harris and Trump have both heavily campaigned in these states, aware that any could tip the election. Election Day, set for November 5, will determine the presidency, the future of Congress, and several state and local positions. So far, over 78 million Americans have voted early, including about 700,000 more Democrats than Republicans, per data from the University of Florida Election Lab.
