Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha issued a warning on Tuesday, stating that houses sheltering militants would be demolished as he called on people to stand against those fuelling violence.

He emphasised that if armed forces, the Union Territory administration, and citizens join hands, militancy could be eradicated from the region within a year.

“I have instructed the forces not to harm any innocent, but those responsible will not be spared. If anyone shelters militants, their house will be demolished. There will be no compromise on this,” the LG declared at an event in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sinha addressed claims that actions against those providing shelter to militants are acts of oppression. “This is not oppression, but a pursuit of justice, and such justice will persist,” he added.

He further remarked that certain individuals are attempting to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Our neighbour is trying, but we’re not troubled by that; it’s the people here acting under its influence that concern us. It’s not solely the responsibility of the armed forces and administration; the people, too, must identify such elements,” he stated.

The LG reiterated that if the forces, administration, and people unite, “militancy will not last here for more than a year.”

He warned against the notion that taking action against those who harbour militants constitutes injustice. “It’s wrong if people offer shelter and then accuse us of injustice,” he remarked.

Sinha questioned whether anyone has the right to harm those working to enhance the region’s infrastructure. He referred to the recent killings on October 20 of a local doctor and six non-local workers by militants at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal’s Gagangir area.
